Phytochemical investigation of a methanolic extract of aerial parts of P. fraternus led to the isolation of a new aromatic alcohol characterized as 3'-methyl-3'-(3,4- dimethoxyphenyl)-1'-propanol (1), a benzoyl glycosidic ester identified as 2-n-dodecanoyl-salicyloyl-O- β-D-arabinopyranoside (2) and a new anthraquinone derivative 1-methoxy-2,4,8,9,10,11-hexahydroxy- 3-methyl-6,13-anthracenedione (3) along with a known β-D-diglucoside (4). The structures of isolated phytoconstituents were established on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR, FT-IR, UV and MS data.
